The commander of the USS BUD LIGHT, one of the new Littoral Combat vessels, ordered flank speed of 55 knots. Her companion ship The USS GOOGLE CHROME matched speed and trailed a 100 yards on The Bud Light’s port side. Both vessels were named after industrial sponsors were found to augment the cost of the nation’s defense. The tax base had dwindled due in part to the aging population and the cost of the clean up of a coordinated bio attack on a few cities by a rogue terrorist group.*
Congress had decided that if local jurisdictions could bribe companies like Verizon to help offset the cost of stadiums the military could do the same. The cost would be offset by higher prices to the consumer as a form of taxation without recognition. And each sponsoring company would have exclusive distribution rights to be negotiated with each vendor as required by law.
It was a win-win situation for a government short on cash with a high debt ratio. The US Navy, the first to implement this program was quite pleased. They got new ships and aircraft. The Companies sponsoring received the benefit of a legal advertising monopoly, including dolls (or action figures as they are called for the male gender), toy ship, posters a reduction in taxes as part of the New Enhanced Patriot & Acquisition Act, and the USA was still one of the most potent sea powers on the planet.
The Air Force and Army were in negotiations with some of the corporations they felt would represent their branches in a most positive manner. These remained secret until the contracts were signed. The Air Force and the Army decided on base change names instead of individual items.
The possibilities were almost endless.

* The sponsoring countries of this bio attack were kinetically eliminated from existence since nuclear weapons were found to be a form of global suicide even if used in a limited fashion. It wasn’t quick nor pretty, but it made a point.
